As roofs are vital to complete any house and we cannot imagine a home without a perfect roof, thus we should we very careful in order to install best suitable roofing system in our house. If we talk about flat roofing systems, they have no sloppy surface and they are completely flat and smooth. But many of us do not like to install the flat roofs because during rainy season water will get collected on the floor of the flat roof. However, the flat roofing system is more advantageous to those people who like gardening and want to place plants on their roofs. These types of roof can provide us a big and open space for the celebration of the parties or any social gathering. If we see hundred years back in past, we will find that Middle East people like to utilize the flat roofing systems. But this type of flat roofing will not be encouraged at the extreme North Pole or South Pole. In cold regions of the world like Norway and Green Land, people prefer roofs with sloppy surfaces, thus the custom of the flat roofs is rare at these places.

Experienced architects and house builders says that the flat roofs are quite sensitive to cracking and leakage during the summer seasons. These types of surface do not have the ability to return the heat in the air. As they absorb the heat and thus the homeowners feel uncomfortable and discomfort to stay in the rooms which are built by using flat roofing systems. Flat roofing membrane is a type of roofing system for buildings which is used to prevent leaks and move water off the roof. These types of roofs are usually made from synthetic rubber, thermoplastic or modified bitumen. These types of roofing systems are generally installed in commercial application; however they are becoming more and more common in residential application.

Today, an array of modified roofing system are available in the market like build up roofing, cold process roofing, modified bitumen’s, single ply roof membranes, tile roof systems asphalt shingles and shake, wood and shingles simulations. Amongst all build up roofing which is also known as ‘tar and ravel’ has been very popular from last few years. As it does not have much slope thus it has become a common choice for flat roof structures like a bungalow.
